“Come with us and discover the beautiful city of Quito. Nestled in the Andes and located almost directly on the equator, Quito has a setting that few other cities can match.”
The day will start with an incredible variety of culture and history with a visit to Independence Square, or Plaza de La Independencia. This plaza is surrounded by important buildings such as the Archbishop’s Palace, the Presidential Palace and the Cathedral. This beautiful square is very much the cultural heart of Ecuador where Independence took place against the Spanish many years ago. You will also visit the Jesuit Church of La Compañía de Jesus, one of the most impressive in all the Americas with delicately crafted pieces gilded in gold. Continuing you will visit the San Francisco square, once the most important place of commerce in the city. Here you will find the impressive church and monastery of San Francisco, one of the oldest Catholic complexes in Latin America. Afterwards, get ready to feast your eyes on one of the best views of the city from the Panecillo. Sitting atop is the Virgin of Quito who keeps close watch over the city and protects it as it looks down from the top of the hill.
Once you’ve taken in the views, the fun continues at “Mitad del Mundo”. The complex has interesting interpretation exhibits and you may even see traditional folk dances. Finally, a visit to the Intiñan Museum will complete the tour as you learn of the ancestral villages and different regions of Ecuador. The museum is an ode to the sun as they have interactive experiments allowing you to learn more about the magnificent effects the sun produces because of the equator line.

Hi Sofia – Joy Wegner here — my husband Bud and I completed our Peru journey last Friday.
I just wanted to send you a personal note of thanks — everything about our Peru trip was outstanding service! People easily picked us up at airports and train stations, they were completely informed of travel plans and showed an obvious desire to ensure our safety and our health. The guides, in Lima, in Cusco, and in Machu Picchu were so knowledgeable and really on-target with their guidance for our trip. We will recommend Columbus Travel to friends.
Thank you for your part in making this trip so enjoyable for us! Best wishes . . .
Our trip was enriched by the expertise of the naturalists on board. Their depth of knowledge was impressive. The food was delectable, and special events were organized to encourage interaction among passengers. We learned much during our journey, especially conservation efforts.
