8 Days Culinary Experience

ITINERARY

On your arrival to Lima you will be met by representatives and transferred to your selected hotel.

Experience the colonial and modern areas of Lima passing outstanding monuments and historical sites like the Government Palace, the Cathedral and 17th century San Francisco Convent.  Another highlight of Lima is the Larco Herrera Museum, constructed above what was once a pre-Columbian pyramid. You’ll have a guided gastronomic tour of the capital, sampling the city’s most famous dishes.  The first stop is Chez Wong where you’ll enjoy an award-winning ceviche declared to be “the best dish in the world” by The Guardian in 2014.   Continuing to the Miraflores district, lomo saltado and a Peruvian stir fry awaits you at Panchita or Tanta, both described as the perfect homage to Peruvian street food.  The third stop on this flavorful route is Tio Mario.  Here, you can try picarones for dessert or antichuchos, grilled meats cooked slowly on skewers.  Finally, you arrive at the Ayahuasca Bar, for tasty cocktails.

Today you will have a transfer to the Lima airport for your flight to Cusco.  Upon your arrival, you will meet your transfer to the Sacred Valley where en route you will visit Awanacancha, a textile complex known for their incredible weaving.  At the site you’ll see both llamas and alpacas and experience an activity with the locals as they show you their skills passed down by centuries of practice.  Afterwards you’ll continue to Urubamba to your selected hotel. (Private services).

Today you have a full day planned to explore the entire Sacred Valley of the Incas.  With your private transportation you begin your first visit at Maras. This is a salt production center that has been providing salt to the area since Inca times.  Not far from Maras is Moray, here you’ll see where the Inca built circular terraces to create microclimates suitable for farming various crops that grew in different regions, all together in the same place.  After lunch in a local restaurant you’ll continue north to Ollantaytambo and visit a military fortress built during Inca rule and where the Inca won a battle against the Spanish.  Towards the end of today’s activities, you will visit a local market in the small village of Pisac.  It’s a unique experience where you’ll be surrounded by the locals who gather here to sell their handmade works, a true image of intricate and amazing craftsmanship.  You will then be transferred to your selected hotel in Urubamba.

After beginning your day with a delicious breakfast you’ll be picked up for a transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station.  You’ll depart by the Vistadome Valley train making your way to the enchanting site of Machu Picchu where you’ll discover the lost city. The train will stop at the foothills of the mountains in a small town called Aguas Calientes.  You’ll then be provided transportation to the entrance of the Machu Picchu where your guided tour begins.  Upon entering be prepared as the sight may take your breath away once you realize just how big and incredible this Incan fortress really is.  Soak in the moments of this amazing engineering masterpiece of an ancient world so long ago.

Machu Picchu is also thought to be a place for astronomical observation.  You can decide for yourself as you explore the ruins of the temples, palaces, living quarters and many terraces, leaving you bewildered on how the Inca were capable of such a feat.

You’ll have lunch after the visit in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge restaurant and stay the night in Aguas Calientes.

Experience the magic of Lake Titicaca visiting the islands of Uros and Taquile. The island of Uros is home to a close-knit community on a man-made island. The Uros people live interwoven with the “Totora” reed, growing in the shallows of the lake. With this they’ve built their homes, boats and island. This way of living is a tradition since before the Inca Empire. It is not a way of life, but a work of art leaving an impression for a lifetime.
You’ll also visit the island of Taquile. The community is one of the most peaceful, they live in perfect harmony with their environment. They direct their own tourism with no influence from the mainland. They wear their traditional dress and maintain a strong sense of pride and individuality, making the visit all the more interesting. You’ll have lunch here and return to Puno after.

After check out from the hotel you will have a second opportunity to explore Machu Picchu, this time without a guide, allowing you to visit the parts of the site that interest you most or get more pictures of.  In the afternoon you will return via the Vistadome train that will take you to the Poroy station nearby Cusco.  A transfer will be waiting to take you to your selected hotel in Cusco.

According to your flight schedule you will have a transfer back to the airport for your flight to Lima.  Connections will be on your own in regards to your international flights.

This was a wonderful trip for anyone Who loves nature, plants, and birds. Sealife. I did not have high expectations as I let my sister make all the bookings as this was her bucket list trip. The catamaran was clean and accommodating for two people l. I loved its many power outlets and a small vanity outside the water closet for hair care.

Thank you, Tannya we have arrived in Quito safely. I wanted to let you know we were both very happy with the Bonita yacht. We had a very bumpy ride at night for the first two nights, but better the second two nights. The captain and crew were very good and our guide, David, was very energetic, enthusiastic and responsible. Lots of good information. Wonderful to see the marine life, animals and birds in the wild. Food was good especially the desserts. We had a really good group of passengers too and everybody got along well. Thanks for all your help.
Warm regards,

Robyn and Joe
