6 Days Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu

ITINERARY

You will be met upon your arrival at the airport and transferred to your select hotel for an overnight stay in Lima.
After breakfast you will leave your hotel with provided transportation to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Once you arrive in Cusco, you will once more be transported to your hotel in Cusco so you can settle in before the afternoon’s excitement of exploring the ancient Incan city of Cusco.
The afternoon tour of Cusco includes all the absolute best and must-see sites. For example, you will visit the Koricancha Temple, known as the Temple of the Sun and the Cathedral with its magnificent chapels and baroque altars and paintings from the Cusquenian School. Your tour also includes the surrounding ruins of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the Inca baths of Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the amphitheatre of Kenko. Each of these four ruins are incredibly well preserved, allowing you to appreciate their magnificence in awe. (Private services). You will return to your hotel in Cusco for an overnight stay.
Entering the Sacred Valley, you’ll stop at the Maras salt depository. Since Incan times, Maras has been a salt producer. You can still see the salt pans filled by underwater springs, supplying Cusco and other areas. Nearby, circular terraces resemble a deep-bowl in the earth, believed to be used by the Inca for experimental agricultural purposes. Each terrace creates a different micro-climate, allowing for different crops to be grown.
Afterwards, you’ll continue to Ollantaytambo to visit a fortress built during the Inca Empire, even used in one of the successful battles against the Spanish. It is an excellent example of Incan engineering. You can also visit the village of Pisac to experience their local agriculture markets, as well as artisanal works of crafts and arts. Locals gather from the Urubamba Valley to trade and sell their works. Afterwards, you’ll be taken to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.
After beginning your day with a delicious breakfast you’ll be picked up for a transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station. You’ll depart by the Vistadome Valley train making your way to the enchanting site of Machu Picchu where you’ll discover the lost city. The train will stop at the foothills of the mountains in a small town called Aguas Calientes. You’ll then be provided transportation to the entrance of the Machu Picchu where your guided tour begins. Upon entering be prepared as the sight may take your breath away once you realize just how big and incredible this Incan fortress really is. Soak in the moments of this amazing engineering masterpiece of an ancient world so long ago.
Machu Picchu is also thought to be a place for astronomical observation. You can decide for yourself as you explore the ruins of the temples, palaces, living quarters and many terraces, leaving you bewildered on how the Inca were capable of such a feat.
You’ll have lunch after the visit in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge restaurant and stay the night in Aguas Calientes.
After your check out, according to your hotel, you’ll have some leisure time to explore Aguas Calientes, as well as some time inside of Machu Picchu to explore the ruins even deeper one last time before returning via the Vistadome train to the Poroy train station near Cusco. A transfer will be awaiting your arrival to transport you to your hotel. You will stay the night in Cusco.
Today you will have a transfer to the airport for your flight back to Lima. Connection will be on your own with international flight.

Craig Godsoe

Hello Pablo, The trip has been excellent. It was a logistically complicated trip, but having assistance at every transfer point greatly simplified things. The two guides Javier (Quito); Allan (Guayaquil), went above and beyond. The crew of Horizon was also excellent. I am grateful for all your hard work, which led to an easy and smooth trip.

I worked almost daily with Sofia at Columbus Travel. She answered all my questions professionally within a day and reset my itinerary several times until it was perfect. The guide and driver chosen for us were beautiful. The hotels she recommended were clean and comfortable and served delicious food. The tours to a Chocolate plantation, hummingbird, and butterfly gardens blended well with the city and hiking tours….

It was a fantastic experience, even better than we expected! Sofia and the Columbus team were excellent; they were very responsive, quickly answered any questions we had, and were available to help us navigate the logistics of our trip. They even helped coordinate some travel logistics outside of those they booked for us and solved a few issues while on our trip.
I would highly recommend Columbus and this trip to the Galapagos to anyone!
